Another thing that I have come to appreciate in the VFX industry is that it is there in scenes that you wouldn't normally see it in. Although Sherlock Holmes is quite a bad example, I stupidly realised it while watching it. From covering up modern things that wouldn't fit in with the Victorian landscape to completely reworking scenes to create a lake that isn't there. I find it fascinating how much you can tailor and rework.
